Learn what a UPI ID is, where to get one from an Indian bank, how UPI works and what to check before using a UPI ID to make a payment to India.
Have a UPI ID?

Your UPI ID comes from your eligible Indian bank account or supported UPI service — SendINR does not issue your UPI ID.
What is UPI?
UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface. It is an Indian payment system that allows money to move between eligible bank accounts using a mobile phone and a UPI identifier.
Simple way to pay
Instead of entering traditional bank details for every payment, a UPI ID can be used to identify the recipient's eligible bank account.
Linked to a bank account
A UPI ID is associated with an eligible Indian bank account through a bank or supported UPI service.
Used across everyday India payments
UPI is used for payments between people and for payments to supported businesses and service providers in India.
A little history of UPI
UPI was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and introduced in India in 2016.
The idea behind UPI was to make it easier for people to transfer money between bank accounts using their mobile phones. Instead of depending on long bank account details for every payment, UPI provides a simpler way to identify an account and initiate a payment. Since its introduction, UPI has become an important part of digital payments in India.
Where do I get my UPI ID?
Your UPI ID comes from your eligible Indian bank account or a supported UPI service. SendINR does not create or issue your UPI ID.
Already have an Indian bank account?
